Why business owners call us
Bookkeeping shouldn’t feel like a second job
Most owners we meet are not bad with numbers. They are just doing three jobs at once, and the books are the one that quietly slides. That is a very normal problem, and a very fixable one.
Plain English, always
You will never get a report you cannot read. If something matters, we explain it in words that make sense — and we are happy to explain it twice.
Deadlines are not your problem
VAT201, EMP201, provisional tax, CIPC annual returns. We track the calendar and tell you what is due before SARS does.
No judgement, ever
Books three years behind? A shoebox of slips? We have seen it. Our only interest is getting you sorted, not making you feel bad about it.

How it works
Getting started takes one phone call
- 01
A free 15-minute call
We talk about your business, where things currently stand, and what is actually keeping you up at night. No sales pitch, no jargon.
- 02
A written quote
You get a clear scope and a fixed monthly fee before anything starts. If a package does not fit your business, we build one that does.
- 03
We take it off your desk
We get access to your books, review where you stand, and from there you get a clean monthly pack — and your evenings back.
Pricing
Clear packages, no hourly-rate anxiety
You know what you are paying before we start, and you can move between packages as your business changes.
Our promise
What you can hold us to
Friendly Figures is a small practice, and that is the point. Here is exactly what that means for you in practice.
You get the same person, every time
Not a call centre and not a rotating junior. Agnètha handles your books herself and knows your business by name.
A fixed fee, agreed in writing
Quoted before any work starts. If something falls outside the scope we tell you what it costs first, not on the invoice.
We come to you about deadlines
You should never find out about a submission because SARS told you. We track the calendar and give you notice with time to act.
Your data stays yours
You own your accounting software subscription; we work inside it as a user. If you ever leave, you walk away with everything.
Already a client? Leave us a Google review — it genuinely helps other small businesses find us.
Common questions
The things everyone asks first
What is the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?
A bookkeeper records and reconciles what happens in your business day to day — invoices, expenses, bank transactions, VAT and payroll. An accountant typically works with that finished record to produce annual financial statements, handle complex tax structuring and provide audit or assurance services. Most small businesses need a bookkeeper monthly and an accountant occasionally. Good bookkeeping is also what makes accountants cheap: they charge far less when the books arrive clean.
How do I know if my business is too small for a bookkeeper?
If you are invoicing customers, paying suppliers and submitting anything to SARS, you are big enough to benefit. The real test is time and risk: if bookkeeping is eating your evenings, or if you are not confident that your SARS submissions are accurate, outsourcing usually costs less than the hours and penalties it saves. We work with sole proprietors and freelancers as well as established companies.
How does onboarding work?
It starts with a free 15-minute call to understand your business and what you need. We then send a written quote and, once you are happy, an engagement letter. From there we get access to your accounting software and bank statements, do a review of where things currently stand, and you receive your first monthly pack at the end of your first full month with us.
Do I have to sign a long contract?
No. Monthly packages run month to month with fourteen days written notice to cancel. We would rather keep clients because the work is good than because they are locked in.
How much does a bookkeeper cost in South Africa?
For a small business, monthly bookkeeping in South Africa generally ranges from around R400 to R900 per month for very low transaction volumes, R1 100 to R1 600 for a typical small business, and R2 100 to R2 500 or more where VAT and payroll are involved. Full compliance packages covering bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and tax typically run from R3 000 upwards. Hourly rates commonly sit between R100 and R400. Friendly Figures packages start at R950 per month excluding VAT.
